Couples can easily become distracted by the many to-do’s of wedding planning and forget to invest in building good communication skills and effective conflict resolution before they start their lives together. Many couples have a difficult time foreseeing some of the challenges that marriage can bring. Others believe that getting married will fix an issue of concern. That is a hope often held but never realized. Getting advice from mom and dad, other couples, and peers can be helpful but doesn’t compare to the unbiased perspective of a trained professional who can help you identify unaddressed topics and provide you with the skills you need to make your marriage last.
Life Counseling Institute’s Premarital Counseling Program is designed to help couples set realistic expectations for marriage. The goal of premarital counseling is not to see if you and your partner are a “match.” Its purpose is to equip you with the information and tools you will need to make the years ahead of you the best they can be. You will learn how to find positive solutions to current and future problems, how to address fears you may have about marriage, and how to avoid resentment. Most important, this program will help you understand your partner more deeply.
The program consists of five sessions, covering these issues:
- What to expect in marriage
- How to communicate more effectively
- Hot topics, such as kids, sex, money, personality differences, and lifestyle
- How to stay on the same page during times of difficulty and conflict
- How to balance job, children, friends, and family to maintain the quality of your marriage
